Netzer slams Chelsea's negative approach
The Germany legend has condemned the Premier League side's defensive tactics, and stressed that football is not only about the result, but also about entertainment
Gunter Netzer has slammed Chelsea for their negative approach in the Champions League semi-final tie against Barcelona, and added that he might stop watching football if the Blues' tactics are adopted by other teams as well.Despite mainly focusing on defending, the Blues managed to beat Barca 3-2 on aggregate to book their ticket for the showpiece against Bayern Munich, and the Germany legend hopes that their negative approach will not lead to further success.
"Chelsea eliminated Barcelona with some terrible football, and Bayern have to be prepared for a similar horribly defensive performance in the final," Netzer wrote in his column for Bild.
"I can only condemn Chelsea's style of football. If this kind of football becomes fashionable, I might never go to a stadium again.
"I could never support a philosophy that only cares about the result. For me, the combination of playing entertaining football with exciting individuals and being successful is always the ultimate goal.
"That's also why I want Bayern to win the Champions League final rather than Chelsea."
Bayern lock horns with Chelsea at the Allianz Arena on May 19.
