Dortmund deserved to beat Bayern Munich, admits Nerlinger

The club's general manager feels that Jurgen Klopp's side's victory was well merited, but believes the match could have ended in a draw
Bayern Munich general manager Christian Nerlinger has admitted that Borussia Dortmund deserved to beat his side when the two clubs clashed on Wednesday.

A late strike from Robert Lewandowski landed a critical blow to the Bavarians' hopes of wrestling the Bundesliga title away from Jurgen Klopp's side, despite a flurry of late chances for the visitors.

Speaking in the wake of the match, the 39-year-old accepted that the reigning champions had the lion's share of chances, but felt that the match could easily have ended in a draw.

"It was a very dramatic match. Over the 90 minutes, Dortmund had the better chances, so they deserved the victory," Nerlinger told Liga total!

"With the final minutes being so dramatic, it would have been possible for us to get a point."

Despite the Allianz Arena club's chances of reclaiming the Bundesliga having all but vanished, Nerlinger went on to promise fans that this result will not affect their season.

"Our focus is now on the rest of the season," he promised. "As long as everything is mathematically possible, we won't give up!"

Bayern Munich face Mainz on Saturday as they look to close the six-point gap at the top of the Bundesliga.
