Churchill Brothers have Mariano Dias, their head coach and a technical director in Subash Bhowmick with the latter being given the onus to call the shots in the I-League.
Bhowmick was absent during the club’s Federation Cup triumph where they won the title by winning all of their five matches under the tutelage of Dias.
In the AFC Cup too, Dias has been at the helm of affairs and the side have done well with two victories from three matches.
However their league form has been awful with them lying at the bottom of the pile staring at relegation.
Following the 3-1 victory over Home United, when asked as to why the club’s fantastic form in the AFC Cup wasn’t being reflected in the I-League, Dias reply suggests that all is not well in the Churchill camp.
“AFC Cup is a separate competition and I-League is a separate competition. I’m responsible in AFC Cup matches and I can’t say what is happening in the I-League,” he said.
Churchill conceded early but did well to comeback soon after and thereafter dominated the match to earn full points.
“We played good and were down by a goal we came into the match. We got the equalizer very quickly, got the second goal and of course Balwant (Singh) gave us the last goal. Overall it was a good performances by the whole team.
“This is the second victory and I think this will again be a morale booster for the further matches,. Especially we have to play in Singapore away and Maldives too.”
Indonesia’s Persipura Jayapura lead the group with seven points, one more than Churchill Brothers as they eased past New Radiant with a 3-0 victory. On being questioned whether the group is turning out to be battle between the Indonesian outfit and Churchill, Dias said, “It’s not easy. Again we have to take match-by-match. We have to keep winning all the matches.”
