Pune FC face Singapore’s Tampines Rovers on Wednesday evening at the Jalan Besar Stadium in an AFC Cup group H tie.
The Red Lizards are coming into the game on the back of a 2-2 draw against Hong Kong’s Kitchee SC where they came back after conceding two goals in the first half.
“We’ve got a lot of confidence coming out of this game, but this is a new game. It is not easy to play away,” said coach Mike Snoei.
Pune FC play on a natural grass surface at the Shree Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, Pune but will have to adapt to the artificial turf on Wednesday.
“In India, some of the teams in the I-League plays on this surface but we play on natural grass. So it is very different for us but like everything in Singapore, the quality is fantastic and we are looking forward to it,” said the former assistant coach of Panathinakos.
The 50-year old mentioned that there wasn’t much to differentiate the standard of Indian and Singaporean players per say. It must be noted that Singapore are ranked 27 in the continent, just a place above India.
“The level of the local Indian players and level of local players in Singapore, there is not much difference. A little bit difference in style but the quality is not much better or much less. It is almost the same,” he observed.
