Churchill Brothers stamped authority in the Group E encounter of the AFC Cup and sent a strong message to the group with a dominant 3-0 victory against New Radiant SC...

Cristian Lagos made his presence felt with two goals against New Radiant to seal an important three points for Churchill Brothers. Coach Mariano Dias brought in the Costa Rican in place of the injured Balwant Singh and that certainly paid rich dividents for the Red Machines.

Battling relegation in the I-League and having lost 3-0 to Bengaluru FC, Churchill were not high on confidence going in to the game. However Dias's side dominated the game from the first minute.

"Win was important. We played a good game and were all over New radiant. And we also got a good score. This win will give us confidence to qualify for the next round," said a gleeful Dias.

On asked whether he will be forced to bench Balwant or Anthony Wolfe in the coming games, Dias said, "There has to be competition in the team, that is how you develop individually and as a team. Everybody wants to play and the best one will get a chance."

Churchill are second in the group tied on points with New Radiant and behind Indonesia's Persipura Jayapura. Will this win inspire them to avoid relegation and and survive in the I-league, only time will tell. However the coach thinks if they they play the same attacking way they can definitely get results.

"If we play like this, attacking football, then definitely we can do better. What we need is goals to win. If we put the opponents under pressure, we can score."
