Jafri Sastra, the gaffer of the Indonesian side however stressed that his team deserved a better outcome than this.

“East Bengal is a very good side and a tough opponent, as I have been saying all along. It was a very good match. But I think we made a number of very good chances, but were unable to take the lead. East Bengal on the other hand was lucky with the goal,” he remarked.

The coach was all praise for East Bengal substitute Ryuji Sueoka, the goal-scorer. “The Japanese number 11 changed the match for them. In the first half also, the players of East Bengal showed good determination and co-ordination. They will be a tough team to beat,” Sastra told the assembled media.

The coach was however hopeful that his team has the potential to get the better of East Bengal in their bid to seal a semi-final berth.

“We will try hard in the return leg. It will be a match in our ground, our conditions. Also, the spectators will make a difference. We will have a slight edge there and will try to beat East Bengal."
