Marcos Falopa: Being a foreigner doesn’t necessarily guarantee a place

Falopa's team selection will not be based on readily granting a berth to the foreigners

The Brazilian has refused to dole out the team selection for the upcoming AFC quarterfinal, keeping it a ‘secret’...

Marcos Falopa hopes to throw the first of many googlies in the way of Semen Padang of Indonesia, East Bengal’s opponents in the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) Cup quarterfinal, by refusing to reveal his squad for the match.

“Keep guessing. We have a strong squad of 30 good players. If you ask me, everyone has a chance to make the team,” was the East Bengal gaffers response to being asked if  the final squad had been selected.

He went on to add, “A young player like Seiminlen Doungel is doing well, equally the experienced (Shylo) Malsawmtluanga is important to the team.”

“Both (James)Moga and (Ryuji) Sueoka are returning from injuries. They will have their chance when the right time comes, but they have to be patient.

“But being a foreigner doesn’t necessarily mean that he is guaranteed a place in the team. Every aspect has to be considered,” expounded Falopa on James Moga and Ryuji Sueoka, who are both match fit, even though they haven’t participated in a single competitive match in the closed season.

Both are expected to make it to the AFC cup tie, though Falopa has begged to differ on their automatic selection.

He concluded by agreeing with popular belief that the East Bengal team needs to improve in their performances if they want to get over the opponents.
