'We will show our real strength on our home soil' - Trevor Morgan
After a creditable goal less stalemate against Sai Gon in Vietnam, Trevor Morgan was hopeful of a better performance at home in the AFC Cup...
East Bengal came back with a creditable goal less stalemate in Vietnam when they took on Vietnamese Cup winners, Xuan Thanh Sai Gon in an AFC Cup Group H encounter. This successfully put an end to the Red and Golds poor continental away record where they had endured a loss in their last ten away games. With East Bengal being the better of both teams during the major parts of the match, Trevor Morgan was decidedly dejected that his side could not put their ascendancy to tangible benefits on the scoresheet.
Sai Gon coach Tran Tien Dai however conceded that the Red and Golds were the far better team in almost all respects.
"East Bengal played much better than what had been described by media. The have good finess, good counter-attack and players who can decide the game."
About his own team's disappointing display, he said that they had experimented with many young players for this match, who did not have much playing time with each other and thus he was happy with the performance from his boys.
"We used many young players in this game. This was just the second game they play together. Therefore, I think it was a decent performance. However, key players upfront didn't play well and simply underperformed. When all our best players return from injury in two weeks, we will show a better performance."
Morgan meanwhile rued the lack of finishing in front of goal but was confident of a much improved showing when they would take on the same team back home.
"We sometimes lost the midfield in the first half. However, we came back stronger and created several scoring chances in the second half. It was a pity that our players could not make them count. Hopefully, we will show our real strength when returning to our home soil."
