Japan coach Alberto Zaccheroni may have to make do without the services of Shinji Kagawa in the 2011 Asian Cup final against Australia on Saturday as the attacking midfielder has picked up an injury.
The Borussia Dortmund starlet sustained the foot injury in Japan's semi-final win over South Korea on Tuesday and will be sidelined for a while due to the knock.
Kagawa missed Wednesday's regular training session because of the foot injury and underwent treatment instead.
Kagawa netted a brace in Japan's 3-2 quarter-final win over Qatar and has played a major role in the Blue Samurai's success so far.
Update 16:20 CET: According to Bernhard Schmittenbecher, the player's agent, Kagawa could be sidelined for the remainder of the season after a scan on Wednesday revealed that the tricky midfielder has sustained a metatarsal fracture.
"Shinji has sustained a metatarsal fracture and is already on his way back to Germany to undergo further treatment. He could be sidelined for the remainder of the season," Schmittenbecher was quoted as saying by Bild.
