thumbnail Hello,

Knowing he was going to miss the World Cup final, the midfielder dragged his country over the line...

Goal.com, in association with Coca-Cola, are counting down the Top 50 most memorable World Cup celebrations of all time. Michael Ballack was outstanding in Germany's charge to an unlikely final in 2002 and cruelly missed out on the clash with Brazil. Still, that didn't stop him giving his all in the semi-final, in which he scored a memorable goal.

43) Michael Ballack - Germany (Korea/Japan 2002)

Moments after being booked - ensuring he would miss the final - Ballack scored Germany's winner in their semi-final with South Korea. Unlike Gazza, who was reduced to tears in similar circumstances, the midfielder kept it together to drag his country to the final. Wearing 13 certainly wasn't unlucky as he pulled his shirt over his face and fell to his knees to scream in absolute delight. Who said Germans don't show emotion?
