“This is a very poor performance. I need not specify any details about it. Anybody can realize how poor the condition is,” he told Goal.
The former East Bengal manager also raised major questions on the selection policy of the team as he felt several quality I-League players were left in the lurch.
“There is no explanation behind leaving a few players out of the squad. Deepak Mondal has been the best right-back in the I-League for the last two seasons. He does not get the opportunity. Lalrindika Ralte is also very promising and with Clifford Miranda out of the team, we desperately needed a leftfooted footballer. Lalkamal Bhowmick should also have got the nod."
Bhowmick, however refused to criticize coach Wim Koevermans for the decisions made regarding the team as he felt that the backroom staff aren't doing their job either.
“It’s not about a particular person. It’s about the team. The whole management is doing a poor job this time around."
Bhowmick, however refused to spell out specific names who he thought did not deserve to represent the nation given their shabby performance at the SAFF Championship.
“I don’t wish to take any names. Some names are pretty obvious."
Bhowmick signed off by saying that there were no short term measures to magically improve the team.
“At this moment nothing can be done. The team does not look to be in a good shape. Everything in Indian football is jeopardized. Let‘s wait and watch how the team fares in the next few possible encounters."
