Afghanistan had to toil for 120 minutes to get past the Nepal challenge and earn a berth in their maiden SAFF Championship final where they shall face India on December 11.

Coach Yousef Kargar agreed that the match was difficult and after being run over for the opening 20 minutes or so, it was the Afghans who controlled the match.

“Nepal is a speedy team but their speed lasted only for 20 minutes. After we controlled all the match. We have a good physical energy.”

“It was a very difficult game for us. Our team played 120 minute and we have power like that. In the last 30 minutes too, we had good power.

“We missed chances in the game with two good ones in the first half. However we will be ready for the next match.”

Kargar mentioned that his side have two good strikers when being questioned on how they plan to stop the striker duo of Sunil Chhetri and Jeje Lalpekhlua.

“India played 90 minutes and they have a good rest for the next match. If they have Chhetri and Jeje, we have (Belal) Arezou and (Sanjar) Ahmadi.

“India have power (stamina) too. (Syed Rahim) Nabi is a good defender. They have a good system in their defence.

“We have our plans and every team has a chance in the final. We have played them before in the tournament and so we will analyse every player.

“The people of Afghanistan will be happy that we are in the final.”
