Nepal have only themselves to blame as they dominated Afghanistan in the first quarter of the match and missed the opportunities that came their way.

Of the four semi-finalists, the Gorkhalis had scored the least number of goals, three to be precise, and their performance against the Afghans wasn’t surprising.

“If you don’t take your chances then you have to suffer. We had at least nine chances in the opening 20 minutes. If you don’t score, you are under pressure.”

“In the second half, we slackened off a bit. In the extra time, I told my boys to ‘go win the game.’ Two of our players made a silly mistake as we didn’t track the runner. You learn from your mistakes.”

Roberts added that Savio Medeira’s side would be in driver’s seat in the finals given that they played their semi-final in the afternoon and that their opposition had to play 120 minutes.

“Congratulations to Afghanistan. I think it’s been the best day for India. They will face a team who have played over 120 minutes. They are tired people and India will benefit.”
