SAFF Championship: Our Defence Performed Well Against Their Quality Strikers – India’s Savio Medeira
The Indian coach praised his team’s efforts and added that a few corrections need to be made before the finals…

Savio Medeira was a pleased man given that his side booked their place in the final of the SAFF Championship as they are on course to defend their title.
“I think everyone saw how India played today. I give full credit to my boys.
“Maldives were down by a goal in the second half or we were up by a goal and it is natural for the opposition to put more pressure in that situation. They were more confident in the second half.”
The 3-1 victory looks comprehensive but that wasn’t the case as the Indian defence had a few torrid moments after the break as Maldives looked a rejuvenated side.
“I think our defence did well for the moment. They had quality strikers and I think our defenders performed well.
“In the second half, they were trying to open up from the left. We will go back to the drawing board and see what went wrong to do the corrections.”
On being asked whether a day’s rest, with no practice, helped India to recharge their batteries ahead of the final, Savio remained indecisive and said, “Maybe, if it helps. I will see whether I do the same for the finals!”
Climax Lawrence had a forgetful day at the office and Medeira mentioned that the Dempo player brings in loads of experience which helps the youngsters around him feel at ease.
