The young lads excelled in their first match on foreign soil, coach credited with making slick changes that ensured victory...
The All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) Under-16 Regional Academy boys can pat themselves on the back after their first match in the Netherlands, where they have gone on an exposure tour, ended with a victory over the Under-17 academy boys of the Dutch Eredivisie’s latest additions FC Dordrecht on Wednesday.
Being an 80-minute stipulated match, Nijwm Muchahary pulled the trigger just outside the box, deep into the final embers of the match, which beat the diving goalkeeper low to the left and helped the Indian Colts gain their first victory on tour.
The match started sprightly for either team as the visitors conceded the first corner of the match, which was dealt with easily by the defense. Anirudh Thapa had a chance from a free-kick moments later, but he sent his shot wide of the target.
Goal scorer and match winner Muchahary then had a shot that was saved by the keeper, as the AIFF Under-16 lads dominated proceedings in the middle of the park.
Bedashwor Singh was at fault for missing a gilt edged chance, steering wide of the opposition net, from the six yard box, after robbing a defender in his own half.
It was a queasy second half neither team offered a significant challenge. Then academy coach, Goutam Ghosh, rung in the changes as he chased the game for victory and it paid its due in the 5 minutes that were added on.
Nijwm then took his call, scoring a stunner after good set-up play in the opposition half, thus helped the Academy colts ensure victory.
