thumbnail Hello,

The former captain of the Indian cricket team admitted to being a massive football fan and expressed his regret for not being able to make it to the World Cup in the past...

Sourav Ganguly praised Coca-Cola for their continuous support to the world’s most popular sport and also hoped that the opportunity to host the U-17 World Cup in 2017 will do a lot of good to Indian football.

"Coca-Cola’s involvement with football is known to everyone. The World Cup football is such a massive event to everyone. It is played in over 200 countries, the game of football. Brazil are the hosts this year and it's great to have Carlos Alberto Torres here (Kolkata). If Brazil is the heart of world football, Calcutta (Kolkata) is the heart of Indian football," he told.

"I know cricket attracts a lot of kids who want to be like Sachin, Rahul Dravid or even Virat Kohli. But the passion and excitement the World Cup in 2017 couldgenerate is unbelievable. The 2017 U-17 World Cup which India will host will bring young boys back to the football field. The passion and the excitement that this sport can generate is enormous. I asked Carlos how the preparation is going. He said we are getting there," he remarked.

He also called up his old memories about the World Cup and informed about the long-lasting impression Diego Maradona had on him.

"I am a massive football fan. I watch a whole lot of players playing. My first impression in 1986 is what I will remember throughout my life. When I see a little man (Diego Maradona) run with the ball, it’s really impressive. For me the quality of football in a World Cup is very special," he signed off.

He hoped that Neymar can fire the Brazilian to glory next summer.

Brazilian football is completely different. Football is at its greatest when Brazil are at their best. They have the team to win the trophy. I’m also keen to watch Neymar who has set the world on fire. Hope he stays fit. He can make a massive difference for Brazil

He also asked Carlos Alberto Torres, the World Cup winner, about what made players like Pele and Maradona so great and whom he ranks higher.

Carlos was straightforward with his answer.

"Between Pele and Maradona Pele of course, he is my very close friend, like my brother. What he did with the ball is like a magician. Maradona also. But for me number one is still Pele," the legendary defender remarked.
