India have climbed a spot to be promoted from the 146th to the 145th position in the latest edition of FIFA rankings of August, and have also advanced from 25th to 24th spot in the continent.
The Men in Blue have gained one place despite not playing at all since their 1-0 defeat to Myanmar (163) in March. India are ranked above Bangladesh (158), Pakistan (167), Sri Lanka (170) and Nepal (170) among the teams from the sub-continent.
While India has not participated in any friendly or tournament since the AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers debacle, this is the third straight month, in which they have risen in the rankings.
The national team will face Tajikistan (114) in a friendly on 14 August, prior to their participation in the SAFF Championships.
Japan are the highest Asian ranked nation at 37th spot followed by Australia at 46th and Iran at 52nd, while South Korea has dropped to fourth, with a FIFA ranking of 56, a slump of 13 places from last month.
