The Sporting Goa forward has been ruled out of India’s latest friendly bouts against the Philippines and Nepal respectively...Dawson Fernandes, Sporting Clube de Goa forward, has been ruled out of India’s friendlies slated to take place on the 15th and the 19th of November on account of an injury sustained in training.
“It’s an injury on my right knee. It’s not happened before and is a new injury. It happened in training and is quite unfortunate. It happened somewhat like this last season too when I was selected and had to sit out due to an injury,” said the disappointed India hopeful, who lamented the timing of such an injury.
When asked about the nature of the injury and whether it would need surgery for correction, Dawson was affirmative.
“I am not thinking about anything right now. I don’t know what to say. I hope to make a comeback soon. The injury requires surgery. Yes, I’m hoping to do the surgery in Mumbai. No plans fixed on where I’ll be doing it as they’re in the process of fixing an appointment. They hopefully will tell me by evening. It’s a big surgery.”
Dawson has been replaced by Jeje Lalpekhlua while Rocus Lamare has been included in place of the injured Arata Izumi in the India squad.
