Sporting Clube de Goa striker Dawson Fernandes has been named among the 30-man probables by India coach Wim Koevermans for the international friendly against Tajikistan.
The call-up did not come as a surprise for the Goan as he explained that he has been expecting for the national team opportunity to come his way.
"I expected it (the national team call-up) last year, but unfortunately I got injured and all the plans flopped," he told GOAL.
"Getting a call in the beginning of the season is very confidence booster for me. So I take opportunity to do my best in the team.
"I was aiming for that (to be in the national team) from long back, but I didn't get to play much. I thank my [club] management and coaches for believing in me and for giving me a chance. My hard work paid off. So I thank God for giving me this oppotunity and I will try to make the best of it."
Being named among the probables is however only half way through to making it into the final squad of Team India that will face Tajikistan on 14 August 2013 and Dawson realises the same.
He said, "I know that it's very difficult, but I'll try my best to get into the final squad. There are many experienced players and this is my first time.
"It's always said that one should make the first impression a good one. So I'll try to make a good one."
Meanwhile, the Flaming Oranje coach Oscar Bruzon Barreras sees Dawson's India call-up as an inspiration for the rest of his players to work hard in the pre-season and is confident that more faces from his side could soon don the national team colours.
"We have a very good news from the national team - that's the call of Dawson Fernandes," said the Spaniard. "That's also a motivational tool for the young players to know that we (players of the club) are not very far from playing in the national team.
"I'm sure that in the next few months we are going to have more good news concerning the national team."
