The Dutchman has targeted the Asian Cup in three years time as his primary task after taking charge of the national team in July this year…
Wim Koevermans has stated that his target is to ensure that India makes it into the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia by qualifying and winning the 2014 Challenge Cup.
“Our main aim stays to qualify for the 2015 Asian Cup. We need to move ahead,” he said addressing the press in Singapore.
The 52 year old was pleased that India were at last playing on a FIFA matchday unlike in the past when the I-League wouldn’t have a break on the said dates.
“We are pleased to be here to play against strong opposition in Singapore. It is important to use every FIFA date to play a friendly, to improve ourselves
“The Cup win was great. When I first came in on 1st July, only had five weeks together, I was really pleased with performance of team. We showed good team spirit and played good football, and have to do that in future as well,” he said.
The Dutchman added that he had a look at his opponents and believes that the going won’t be easy for his squad on Tuesday at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium.
“We have seen video footage of Singapore team, they always give everything. They have the home advantage. But we play every game intending to win it and we will want to win this too. But as I said, it’s not easy,” Koevermans maintained.
