The All India Football Federation (AIFF) stated that the Indian national team wouldn’t travel to England ahead of the Challenge Cup in March after Blackburn Rovers admitted to having “some problems”.
The former Premier League winners had proposed that Team India travel to Lancashire and use their facilities to organise a ten-day camp and had also promised the same for the India U-16 side. In return, they had asked for the Venky’s logo to be carried on the national team training jerseys, according to sources in the AIFF.
Blackburn are lying 18th in the Premier League standings with a mere 18 points to show from 22 matches, a stat similar to those placed 19th and 20th on the table. Their fans have continued to voice protest against the owners with the latest attack coming from Christopher Samba, who was denied a green signal to join QPR earlier this month, claiming that Venky’s “do not understand football.”
“Blackburn admitted that they have some problems but added that they are keen to work with us at a later stage,” informed Subhankar Mukherjee, the national team director at the AIFF.
India shall now travel to Dubai on the 15th of this month are scheduled to play Oman on the 23rd. The Men in Blue are looking to play another couple of games depending on what can be organised at the eleventh hour.
