Indian Icon Bhaichung Bhutia Bids His Farewell

"It is a tough finale for my international career as Bayern Munich is one of the best teams in European club football. But it is a challenge in which I want to succeed,” said Bhaichung.

Having scored on debut against Uzbekistan back in 1995 Nehru Cup, Bhaichung went on to represent the country in 107 matches and scored 49 goals. Fans would certainly wish that the torch bearer of Indian football scores against the German giants in his swan song.

"I just wanted to play for India. I would have never dreamt of playing 100 plus matches."

When asked to rate his biggest achievement, Bhaichung stated that qualification for the 2011 Asian Cup in Qatar by winning the 2008 Challenge Cup was the highlight of his career. However it was a personal setback for the striker, as he could only feature for 12 minutes against South Korea in the final group game.

"I want to thank Audi India, FC Bayern Munich and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for organising such a farewell match for me!"
