Sunil Chhetri Is One Of The Most Dedicated Guys Around – Bhaichung Bhutia
The former India skipper heaps praise on the Indian Player of the Year award winner highlighting a few of his qualities…
By Rahul Bali
At the age of 27, Sunil Chhetri has already matched Bhaichung Bhutia’s feat of having won the Indian Player of the Year award twice. Only I.M.Vijayan has been honoured with the highest individual award in the Indian football fraternity thrice.
Given that the Mohun Bagan striker has several years ahead of him in his football career, one can safely bet on him winning a couple more of these awards to rewrite the history books.
Having played under the tutelage of Bhaichung for long, Chhetri has continued to shine even after the star striker decided to hang his boots.
India won their first international tournament, SAFF Championship, in the post-Bhaichung era and it wasn’t surprising that the most valuable player award went to Chhetri.
“I think it’s great to have given the award to him (Chhetri). The kind of form that he is in, the way he performed in the Asian Cup and recently in the SAFF Championship, he deserves the honour,” said Bhaichung.
The Sikkimese Sniper highlighted a few qualities of his former strike partner and stated that there aren’t many players who are as devoted to the game as he is.
“I think he is extremely hard working and a dedicated guy. The effort he puts in is tremendous,” the United Sikkim skipper said.
