SAFF Cup Draw: India Grouped With Bhutan, Afghanistan And Sri Lanka

India have been grouped alongside last edition’s semi-finalist Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bhutan at the SAFF Cup draw held in Delhi on Wednesday.

Meanwhile in another group, the highest ranked nation in the competition – Bangladesh have been grouped with last season’s finalists Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan.

The tournament scheduled for December 2-12 shall be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi.

Group A – India (160), Sri Lanka (177), Afghanistan (184), Bhutan (199)

Group B – Bangladesh (141), Maldives (162), Nepal (144), Pakistan (173)

AIFF President Mr Praful Patel in his address said, “It is a great pleasure to host the SAFF Championship in New Delhi once again. This time the Championship will be held at the World class Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium which is now being developed as a football hub as part of the legacy plan of the Ministry of Sports, Government of India. I wish all the participating countries the very best and hope to see a very competitive tournament.”

While speaking at the occasion AIFF General Secretary Mr. Kushal Das said, “SAFF Championship would not only help in development of football in the region but also help in fostering goodwill and mutual cooperation among the Nations.”
