The All India Football Federation conducted their crucial Executive Committee meeting at the Football House in New Delhi on Wednesday. Chaired by the President of Indian FA, Mr.Praful Patel, the committee meeting was attended by the main decision makers of the governing body.

While many key decisions were taken in the meeting regarding the Santosh Trophy and Federation Cup, the main talking point however remained the discussion over current National team coach Bob Houghton.

The Technical Committee’s report on the performance of Team India in the Asian Cup 2011 was reviewed by the Executive Committee.

In an official statement released by the Federation, it was stated that the FA was concerned on the poor performance of the national team despite supporting the coaching staff on all their demands.

AIFF was also unhappy by the conduct of coach Bob Houghton. The board expressed their unhappiness about the derogatory remarks passed by the British coach in regard to Indian Football and the Indian FA. Thus the Indian Football Governing body decided to take legal advice on the next course of action.

If rumours are to be believed we are close to mark the end of Bob Houghton’s tenure as Indian national team coach. However Bob Houghton continues to remain in charge of the team as of now as India prepare to play the AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers in Malaysia till any further update.

Goal.com caught up with many key players after the meeting was concluded in New Delhi. Here is what they had to say.

Syed Rahim Nabi

It is unfortunate to note that the AIFF wants to sack Bob Houghton. He is a very experienced coach and has done wonders for the Indian team. We really did well at the Asian Cup and all thanks to Bob Houghton.

Deepak Mandal

Bob Houghton is the best coach the Indian National team has ever had. Under him we have won three major tournaments so it will be very bad on AIFF’s part to take note of just one failure.

Surkumar Singh

I have huge respect for Bob Houghton as I have became a better played while playing under him. I was not aware of the fact that AIFF wants to sack Bob Houghton but if it happens it is not a very good development.
