Thailand head coach Bryan Robson expressed his delight while answering the questions at the post-match press conference.
“I am delighted with the performance of our young players. It was another good match after the home win on Saturday. I am very happy that we dealt with the Indian conditions and played some good football.”
Thailand are focusing on doing well in the Asian Games and thus coach Bryan Robson mainly used under-23 players in both the ties.
In Wednesday’s match quite a few Thai youngsters impressed but the standout performer was left footed winger Wichaya Dechmitr, who was also chosen as the top of the match by Goal.com.
Coach Robson hailed the performance of the 19 year old, “He (Wichaya Dechmitr) is only 19 and has got great stamina and ability with the ball. Mentally if he keeps his ground, he will be much better in future.”
The former Man United and England captain also gave his opinion about the performance of India.
“India attacked a little more tonight, probably to please their fans, but that left more space for us to go for counter attacks.
“They looked good at playing little passes in the midfield and that caused us a lot of problems. If India can consistently play this way then I am sure they will be able to trouble a lot of good teams.”
Robson also pointed out that the Indian team looked much more dangerous after skipper Bhaichung Bhutia came onto the pitch.
“India’s attacks looked better after he (Bhaichung Bhutia) came on, especially his coordination with Sunil Chhetri upfront was very effective.”
