Indian National Team: Vietnam And Yemen Likely To Play Against India In October

Almost confirmed...

Vietnam
As part of their preparation for the 2011 Asian Cup, the Indian national team are to play a host of international friendlies at home in the months of September and October.

Last month Goal.com reported that teams and venues for the same hadn’t been confirmed due to various reasons which posed a headache for the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

The option of playing clubs in the Middle East was out rightly rejected by the AIFF Emergency Committee highlighting the increasing costs.

With national coach Bob Houghton reportedly not being too excited at the proposition of having to play African sides given that they have a different style of play as compared to the Asian countries whom India shall be up against at the 2011 Asian Cup, the AIFF have gone ahead to set friendly matches against Namibia and Gambia citing that those countries are ranked higher than the 138th ranked nation.

It is reliably learnt that India are to play Namibia and Gambia later this month at the national capital following the return leg against Thailand on September 8. The African nations shall square-off on Sunday as part of the 2012 African Nations Cup qualifiers.

Vietnam and Yemen are the two likely opponents to play for the friendlies in October in Pune. Interestingly, while India’s match against Korea DPR wasn’t reportedly cancelled due to a lack of confirmation, Vietnam are playing against the same opponents on September 24!

However, one more game has to be scheduled in the country as per the sponsorship deal signed by the AIFF which categorically mentions that at least six freindlies are to be played at home in each of the three years the deal lasts for.
