Indian national team coach Bob Houghton is of the opinion that come January next year and Australia will have a number of changes from their World Cup squad for the 2011 Asian Cup as several of their players could retire after the football extravaganza in South Africa.

Having watched the friendly between Australia and Denmark earlier this week, Houghton mentioned that several of the bigger boys might hang their boots.

“Australia would change their coach after the World Cup and so, we could see a different style of football. I also believe that the likes of Lucas Neill (32), Criag Moore(34), Scott Chipperfield (34) and even Mark Schwarzer (37) might retire given their age.

“Schwarzer, who I think might be on his way to Arsenal, could continue to play as the goalkeepers tend to last longer. For the Asian Cup, they might want to play some newer ones possibly,” said the Englishman.

Australia play USA on Saturday and Houghton shall be on the stands once again to keep an eye on the Asian number one side.

“We might have to watch them again before the Asian Cup as they would change by then,” he said.

Also part of India’s group for the 2011 Asian Cup are South Korea who are busy preparing themselves for the World Cup on the east coast of South Africa.

“I don’t think they will change a lot from now and shall have a similar team. I shall watch them on the 12th when they take on Argentina in their opening game,” added Houghton.
