IFA Secretary Files Complaint Against Bob Houghton
Indian Football Association (WB) General Secretary lodges complaint against national Coach for derogatory remarks against him.
It all started when East Bengal informed the IFA that they will not play in the Calcutta League match against Chirag United due to unavailability of players due to injuries. East Bengal had requested the IFA to postpone the match till the players from National Camp return.
In a bid to keep the Calcutta League on, IFA Secretary Mr. Utpal Kumar Ganguly spoke to National Coach Bob Houghton about the release of players from the camp for participation in the Calcutta League on 11th of December instead of the original date of 13th December.
It was learnt from Mr Ganguly that Mr Houghton got infuriated over this proposal and slammed Mr Ganguly saying that he has no quality to head a football organization. He also informed us that Mr Houghton also mentioned that Mr Ganguly’s appointment as Deputy Chairman in the I-League committee is a “Death Certificate” for Indian Football. Bob Houghton also maintained that it was against his principles to release the players.
Mr. Utpal Kumar Ganguly has reacted strongly to this matter writing an open letter to AIFF President Praful Patel seeking immediate and strong action against the British Coach.
Speaking to Goal.com, Mr.Ganguly said, "I had just requested Mr.Houghton to release the players one day prior to their original release. I never thought Mr.Houghton could comment so harshly.”
“I can never digest the words he used against me. I am a man of honour thus I seek justification on how a foreigner can comment on the dignity of a person heading the oldest state football association in this country.”
The AIFF President sure has a tricky situation to deal with, for the moment.
