On the back of goalkeeper Subrata Paul being named Indian Player of the year 2009, Goal.com caught up with his Pune FC teammate Arata Izumi who was delighted to hear the news.

He said, “ Its fantastic for Subrata to be given this award and he thoroughly deserves it”

Arata explained that even in training Subrata looks solid and inspires confidence into the defense.

“Not only is he a very good goalkeeper but he is a performer. He always rises up to the occasion and makes immense contribution when team needs him the most”

It is no surprise that after his heroics in the final of the Nehru Cup 2009, Subrata has caught the eye. He comes across as a commanding and athletic shot stopper and Arata confirms it.

“He is a very good goalkeeper and especially an excellent shot stopper”

On being asked whether his team were feeling the pressure of not having yet registered a win Arata was quick to shoot down the notion.

“I know we haven’t yet won a match but we are very confident of doing so soon. I don’t think our performances have been poor. The team has confidence in its abilities and I am certain we will do well”
