AFC U-16 Qualifiers: India Finish Fifth In Their Group
The Under-16 team could only manage one win from their five group games.
Going into their last group game against UAE, India were already out of contention after losing two of their first four games.
UAE needed three points from this to ensure their qualification but it was India who opened the scoring. However soon the hosts took control and went on to win the game 6-3.
India’s only win came against bottom side Turkmenistan whom they beat 2-1 and the other point came in the 0-0 draw against Kyrgyzstan.
India finished the six team group in fifth place having scored six and conceded fifteen. Kyrgyzstan also got four points from their five games but finished above India because of a better goal difference.
UAE and Jordan finished first and second respectively and qualified for the final rounds.
Striker Jaybrata Dhar was India’s topscorer with two goals.
