The Local Lions beat The Blue Tigers by 1-0 in the final group stage game of the Nehru Cup and Goal.com looks at how individual players fared on the pitch...
|Karanjit Singh||2||The goalkeeper will be disappointed that he conceded the goal from that acute an angle. Was at times shaky under crosses but pulled off a couple of decent saves and stood up well for the penalty.|
|Denzil France||2.5||Provided great width down the right wing, putting in several dangerous crosses in the box, and in general linking up well with Sanju Pradhan. Made a couple of vital interceptions in defense and should have done enough to seal his place for the final.|
|Syed Rahim Nabi||2.5||
The usual mix of steel in defence and flair in attack. Unlucky to give away the penalty which Bertin eventually missed, and as usual attacked with vigour down the left flank. Will be disappointed he missed the target from close range with a free header.
|Gurwinder Singh||2||Coming intot he side in place of Raju Gaikwad, Gurwinder started a bit shakily, but soon settled into the game and dealt with Cameroon’s physical threat well. Was taken off later in the game due to an injury.|
The senior defensive partner had a slightly poor evening. Should have put in a tackle for Samuel’s early goal and at times allowed the forward to run behind him. Was caught out by a pass from Samuel to Eloundou in the second half, but Gurwinder covered up for him.
Retained in the line-up by Koevermans, Mehtab was his usual tenacious self. Tackled hard and grew in influence as the game progressed.
|Jewel Raja||2||His mobility and determination to get into the box were visible throughout the game, and linked up well with the wingers. However the end product was lacking and he will most likely make way for Lenny Rodrigues in the final.|
|Sanju Pradhan||2.5||Added good width to the side and swung in a couple of very dangerous crosses, which the forwards should have done better with. Showed good movement and a nice understanding with Franco down the right. Could now have the edge over Anthony Pereira, as the duo fight for a place in the final line-up.|
|Francis Fernandes||2||Again playing in the hole behind the main striker, Francis showed good movement, but does not have the poacher’s sense, needed to play in such a position. Should have done better with a header in the second half, as though he got good power on it, he hit it straight at the keeper. Should be tried on the wings|
(Flop of the match)
|1.5||The Dempo SC player has gone slightly off the boil, carrying his poor form against Nepal into the game against Cameroon. Did not provide any kind of support to the rampaging Nabi and did not put in enough crosses into the box.|
Was guilty of mistiming his leap, when presented with a good headed chance by Denzil Franco. Held up the ball well generally and tried to play in his team-mates, but did not have the same goal scoring touch as the man he replaced, Sunil Chhetri.
|Robin Singh||1.5||The striker came on in the second half for Manandeep, and provided a physical edge to India’s game. Unable to pull India level though, and his best work was done outside the box.|
|Nkessi Hosea||2.5||Hosea was playing instead of the first choice goalkeeper Ngome Lawrence. He did not have to do too much throughout the game but made an excellent save from a header by Jewel Raja.|
|Ousmaila Baba||2.5||Baba contained Clifford Miranda for most of the game. He was threatened a few times but he came on top. He also played a few decent balls towards Charles Eloundou.|
Ntolla did very well to contain Manandeep Singh who could have been the difference maker for India. Ntolla made a few decent challenges but was beaten for headers in which he should have done better.
|Souleymanou Mandjombe||2||Mandjombe had a few good moments defensively and he stopped Francis Fernandez from going one on one with the goalkeeper. However, he did not stop the crosses from Denzil Franco and Sanju Pradha which could have resulted in goals. He also picked up a booking in the second half after a rough challenge on Denzil Franco.|
Achilles was deployed just infront of the Cameroon backline. He did not make any significant contribution to the game as India played mostly from the wings which did not help his cause.
|Eugene Talla||1.5||Eugene Talla had a nightmare game after he gave away the ball cheaply several times. He was closed down quickly by the Indian frontline and did not respond well to the pressure.|
|Bitte Samuel (Top of the Match )||3.5||Bitte Samuel’s goal in the game early proved to be the match for Cameroon. Although he wasn’t that tormenting but his burst of pace and the shot for the goal was breath-taking. He also is our player for the top of the match.|
|William Mbogning||3||Mbogning was the engine of the Cameroon squad today. His work rate was phenomenal and initiated many attacks for his side. He was deployed at the middle of the park and had a proper box to box role.|
|Charles Eloundou||2.5||Eloundou who generally comes on as a substitute, started the game today and had a decent battle with Syed Nabi in the first half. There were times when Nabi did very well to contain him but rest of the time he could easily break away to put in crosses. Nabi also fouled Eloundou which resulted in the penalty.|
|Joseph Momasso||2.5||Joseph Momasso continued his good run of form in this tournament. He played the chip towards Bitte Samuel which resulted in the only goal of the match. However, keeping the finals in mind, he did not make those blistering runs as much as he would in the previous games.|
Ibanga Bertin had a very average game by his standards. He also tried a Pananka penalty which he missed. He did not get any other chance to be on the scoresheet and did not make any attempt to amend that either. He was substituted with the dangerous Ashu Tambe.
|Paul Bebey Kingue||NA||The captain of the team came on as a substitute for Joseph Momasso but did not have any contribution to the game.|
|Ashu Tambe||NA||Came on late in the game for Ibanga Bertin and did not influence the game in any way.|
|Thierry Makon||Came on as a substitute in the last few minutes of the game and missed an open goal in the last minute of the game.|
