Player Ratings: East Bengal 3-5 Mohun Bagan
Goal.com's Atishay Agarwal rates the players on show at a thrilling Kolkata derby at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday...
East Bengal
Abhra Mondal - 5 - A very poor outing for the goalkeeper, who has ironically been in good form recently. A howler for Manish Mathani's goal aside, he didn't do well at Bagan's third and fifth goals as well. One of the main reasons why East Bengal lost.
Nirmal Chettri - 6.5 - Started the flood of goals, a thumping header, but failed to impress otherwise at the back or going forward.
Govin Singh - 5.5 - Very shaky indeed, and didn't seem to have any sort of an understanding with Mehrajuddin. Only one good tacke of his comes to mind, throughout the whole game.
Mehrajuddin Wadoo - 4.5 - Probably the second biggest reason why East Bengal lost. Mehraj is a quality player, but his defending was woeful today. He was too static, and was uncharacteristically casual at the back. Was at fault for both second half goals.
Syed Nabi - 6 - The East Bengal skipper was wasted in defence, as he hardly saw the ball in dangerous areas. He didn't show much adventure bombing down the flanks as well, which made his side's attacking play a bit too narrow.
Renedy Singh - 7 - Surprisingly taken off in the second half. He's a bit like Beckham, in the sense that he can change the game any instant with a moment of sheer quality. Two of East Bengal's goals were down to his wonderful crosses, so the least he deserves is a seven.
Sreco Mitrovic - 6 - He didn't too much throughout the game, which isn't surprising as this was just his first game. Did he score East Bengal's third goal, or was it Yakubu? Might be something the AIFF looks at after the game.
Riston Rodrigues - 5 - Looked completely lost in midfield. Wasn't really doing a holding midfielder's job, and wasn't able to create anything going forward as well.
Mehtab Hossain - 6 - No lack of effort from the winger, but hardly any end-product. Should have stuck to the flanks a lot more, rather than cut inside.
Abel Hammond - 5 - What a disappointing start to his East Bengal career. He ran around a bit early in the first half, but was anonymous thereafter, and ruined the move whenever he got the ball.
Yusif Yakubu - 7.5 - The only player who displayed consistency in the East Bengal side today. His attitude was spot on, and he might end up with more than just the one goal today, if his side's third goal is credited to him. Brilliant player.
Subs:
Alvito D'Cunha - 5.5 - Didn't change much after he came on, and looked out of sorts.
Subash Singh - 5 - Very poor, and couldn't make the right decisions when needed to.
Harmanjot Khabra - NA - Wasn't on long enough to have an impact.
Mohun Bagan
Shilton Paul - 5.5 - Everything was going fine for the glovesman, until a moment of tragic comedy for him and Surkumar Singh. Was definitely at fault for that goal, which probably saw him get substituted.
Surkumar Singh - 7 - Had a very good game, and created Bagan's first goal. One could see that he was really up for the match, and was always a bundle of energy.
Rakesh Masih - 6 - Had a disappointing first half, but was much more solid in the second, stifling Yakubu when required.
Sangram Mandi - 5.5 - Was the lesser of the two center backs, and almost gave away a penalty when he brought down Yakubu inside the box in the second half.
N.Mohanraj - 6.5 - Again, he didn't stand out in the first half, but looked impressive in the second, and produced the only real moment of top class defending in the game, when he tracked back to dispossess Abel Hammond in the box.
James Singh - 6.5 - Very calm and assured performance by the Bagan skipper. Was cool when in possession, and helped out ably in defence. Looked in control on the pitch, and set up Chidi for Bagan's fourth goal.
Marcos Pereira - 6.5 - Not his best game in attack, but the defensive side of his game was top notch today. Won back possession on many occasions, and distributed the ball well.
Manish Mathani - 6.5 - What a game for the young lad from Dehra Dun. A powerful strike saw him score his second goal in as many games, and he looked a much more confident player after that. Not an extraordinary performance, but an impressive one.
Snehashish Chakraborty - 6 - Not a good day in the office for the winger, who was man of the match the last time Bagan played in the I-League. The only standout moment for him was at Bagan's fourth goal, when his cross was headed back to Chidi by James Singh.
Jose Ramirez Barreto - 7 - An impressive comeback for the Brazilian, as he set up Chidi for his second goal, and also hit the woodwork with a header. Unfortunately, sustained another injury and had to come off.
Chidi Edeh - 9 - What can you say? Football can turn everything upside down in the matter of 90 minutes. Derided in recent weeks for his poor performances this season, he has now more than made up for it, by setting the record of becoming the first player to score four goals in this derby. Clinical finishing at all four goals by the Nigerian.
Subs:
Sangram Mukherjee - 6 - Nothing much to do in the second half.
Ishfaq Ahmed - 6 - Ran around, but couldn't do anything of note. Not that he needed to.
Thomba Singh - NA - Came on in injury time.
