Champions League Player Ratings: Arsenal 2-0 Olympiacos

Arsenal claim all three points at the Emirates...

CL: Arsenal - Olympiakos / Fabregas - Torosidis (INTIME)

ARSENAL

Mannone – 7 – Kept his concentration to make several good reflex saves when needed.

Eboue – 7 – Always looking to join in with the flowing Arsenal attacks, but found it difficult to make penetrative runs.

Gallas – 8 – A captain’s performance by the former captain, who showed experience and poise and threatened to score the breakthrough goal.

Vermaelen –
7 – Another dependable showing, but unable to make the impact in attacking positions that he desired.

Clichy – 7 – A good evening’s work, plenty of overlaps and a few sharp passes but unable to find the edge on the overlap.

Rosicky – 6 – Struggled on his return to the starting line-up after a bright start as the visitors, and notably Raul Bravo, gave him little space.

Diaby – 7 – Some sweet passing and movement, especially in the first half, but made little impact after the interval.

Fabregas –
8 – Outstanding in the opening half with his sharp movement and cute passes, but lacked a finishing touch. Good pass helped set up Van Persie’s goal.

Song – 8 – A fine game in which he was disciplined and dependable without any outstanding moments.

Arshavin – 8 – His flair and vision were only offered inconsistently until he scored a brilliant goal in the 86th minute to seal the deal.

Van Persie –
8 – Persistent, dangerous and finally successful with his important goal.

Subsitutes

Eduardo – 7 – His sharpness created the goal for Van Persie with accurate cross.

Vela –
6 – On late and had little time to make an impact.

OLYMPIACOS

Nikopolidis –
9 – An outstanding performance against wave after wave of Arsenal attacks. He showed agility and anticipation.

Zewlakow – 6 – Solid and rugged, he kept Arshavin occupied for long periods and did his job.

Mellberg – 7 – Looked as solid as ever, but was caught a little flat-footed when Eduardo crossed for van Persie’s goal.

Papadopoulos – 7 – Worked hard to stem the tide for long periods and used his height well to reduce any aerial threat.

Raul Bravo –
6 – A decent showing from the former Real Madrid defender who gave Rosicky little room.

Zairi –
6 – A hard working performance with a few threats but not often enough to alarm Clichy; withdrawn at half time.

Torosidis – 6 - Played with composure and intelligence and created a few openings on the break.

Ledesma – 6 – Another hard worker who was prepared to be anonymous in toiling for the team as they flooded midfield.

Dudu – 7
– Worked as hard as he could to find moments of inspiration but found the tide against him.

Leonardo – 7 – Another hard working performer who also produced moments of clever play and threatened Diaby.

Diogo –
7 – Had few opportunities to show his ability as he was mostly left alone up front in a one-sided contest.

Substitutes

Stoltidis – 6 – A decent second half showing but not enough to turn the game.

Mitroglou –
5 – A late entrant with little time to make any impact as his team finally folded.

Oscar Gonzalez – 5 – Another with too little time to make an impact.
