Player Ratings: Churchill Brothers SC - Air India
Goal.com rates the individual performances of players from the two semi-finalists who squared this afternoon at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata.
Churchill Brothers SC
Arindam Bhattacharya (7): The Churchill goalkeeper had pretty much nothing to do in the game and couldn’t do anything to stop the goal they conceded. He couldn’t save a penalty but overall was a good performance.
Gouramangi Singh (7.5): The Churchill skipper was the best of the lots behind but didn’t have much to do as Air India never really threatened in the game. He capped off his evening with a fine penalty.
Naoba Singh (7): The Churchill right-back’s free-kicks were the best chances the I-League defending champions could come up with in the first half.
Rowilson Rodrigues (6): The own goal was the only black spot in his performance in an otherwise composed display from the Goan defender. He did well to take the ball away from Dada Nabeel in the second half when it looked like the striker was through on goal.
Robert Lalthampuana (6): The left back was beaten on a few occasions and did look defensively susceptible against
Soccor Velho (6): His deliveries from the corner were less than average which but obviously didn’t give them the edge.
Kalu Nnanna (6.5): He had an average first half but did show some purpose in the second. He was asked to play as a striker and did a decent job though it didn’t fetch anything productive.
Nascimento Silviera (4): The former Dempo SC player looked a complete misfit in the Churchill side. He ran aimlessly in the middle and hardly did anything worth a mention. He had the honour to score the winning spot-kick.
K. Paite (5): The Churchill winger, like most of his team-mates, wasn’t clinical in his play. Mispasses and no good crosses were the two noticeable aspects of the game.
Jaison Vales (6): The right winger did look bright but was substituted towards the end of the first half. His crosses lacked precision and neither could he come up with the goods upfront when needed.
Reisangmi Vashum (7.5): He was the primary creator for Churchill Brothers and looked the most effective player for them. It wasn’t a surprise that the equaliser came from him.
Durga Boro (5.5): The striker did win a couple of free-kicks for his side and had a decent attempt towards the closing stages of the game. He had big boots to fill in for the suspended Odafa Okolie.
Substitutes Dannie Fernandes (4) : A wasted substitution and was substituted again by coach Carlos Pareira.
Naveen Sudhakaran (5): He was lucky to survive until the end for his two footed lunge on Ravinder. He scored from the spot for his side in the shootout.
Ashley Fernandes: n/a
Air India
Arnab Das Sharma (8): The Air India custodian was one of their best men of the field. His decision making couldn’t be faulted and didn’t fear or show nervousness in coming out to collect the ball. He did manage to save one of the penalties in the shootout.
Henry Gangte (6): The midfielder was lucky not to get booked for some atrocious tackles in the first half. His two footed lunge on Kalu was the highlight of his time on the pitch.
Khelemba Singh (7): The defender was at his best and was one of the impressive performers for Air India.
Uttam Singh (5.5): His long throw-ins had no effect and he was largely non-existent in the game.
Ravinder Singh (7): The left back did put in a good shift and it was his ball across the face of the goal deep into the extra time which produced the best chance of the game. However, his free-kicks were ineffective.
Tapan Maity (7.5): Air India’s best offensive player looked dangerous with his runs and through balls. The left winger is the one to watch out for and Mohun Bagan might regret their decision to sell him off.
Soccor Velho(6) : The Air India skipper was lively in the first half but as the game wore on, his energy levels dipped and so did his performance.
Vijith Shetty (7) : The versatile player, put into the right back slot, did what was asked of him and kept Paite and Robert under check. He never allowed them to get behind the Air India defence and hence, no good crosses from the opposition.
Praneel Mendon (5) : He didn’t contribute much to the game except for a move in the first half of the extra time.
N.D. Opara (3.5): The Nigerian striker was largely absent throughout the game.
Dada Nabeel (5.5): The former HAL striker didn’t do much but did make Churchill sweat once in the first session with his bustling run down the left flank.
Substitutes:
H. Thomte (7): He did add more steel to the Air India midfield and kept winning the balls.
Harpreet Singh (6): He had two good chances after coming on. The former Mahindra defender also scored a good penalty.
Kailash Patil: n/a
