Goal.com World Player Of The Week: Cesc Fabregas - Arsenal & Spain

Goal.com highlights the contributions of the Gunners' eager young skipper...

CL: Arsenal - Olympiakos / Fabregas - Zico, Dudu (INTIME)
Welcome to Goal.com's regular feature: Goal.com World Player of the Week. Each week our worldwide team of editors will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Goal.com International, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday. It won't necessarily be the best player in the world - at least not usually - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...

Goal.com World Player of the Week #20: CESC FABREGAS
Club: Arsenal
Country: Spain
Age: 22
Role: Midfielder
Achievement: Inspiring his side to a Champions League win over Olympiacos and a Premier League triumph against Blackburn Rovers.

Goal.com's 20th World Player of the Week was prominent during a successful seven days for his club, a period which marked Arsene Wenger's 13th anniversary at the helm.

The Gunners controlled the tempo against Olympiacos in the Champions League, with Cesc, in particular, catching the eye.

The Spaniard dominated the centre of the field and managed to carve out clear chances for his front-men.

At the weekend, Fabregas notched a memorable volley against Rovers and was also involved in most aspects of the Emirates side's positive play, chipping in with an incredible four assists.

Arsenal hit six past Sam Allardyce's team and their emphatic victory was thanks in no small part to the interventions of their badge-kissing captain.

Congratulations to Cesc, our 20th Goal.com World Player of the Week!

Honourable Mentions:

1
. Francesco Totti - Roma

'Er Pupone' reached a landmark 184 goals thanks to his double against Napoli, a match in which his beloved Roma came from behind to win. Displayed his class and invention throughout.

2. Martin Palermo - Boca Juniors

Another veteran, another landmark. The Boca forward struck his 200th goal in the Argentine top flight with an outstanding 40-metre header against Velez Sarsfield. The 35-year-old is in the form of his life, having been summoned by Diego Maradona for international duty.

3. Diego Souza - Palmeiras

The midfielder netted stunning header and made one assist in Palmeiras' 3-1 win over Santos that confirmed his side as the top team in Brazil. Diego Souza was called up by Dunga to the national squad for next week's World Cup qualifiers and is now widely regarded as the best player in the Brasileirao.

4.  Alex de Souza - Fenerbahce

The Brazilian scored two goals in Fenerbahce's stunning 3-0 win against Genclerbirligi. The ex-international is in tremendous form; he also scored the solitary goal against Sheriff in Europa Cup last midweek. The 32-year-old is already considered as one of the best foreigners ever to play for Fenerbahce and may be considered as simply the best in the near future.

Leave your notes of congratulations for Cesc below, or discuss who else deserves a place in the sun this week...
