Former England international Michael Ball fined £6,000 for homophobic remarks made on Twitter
The former Manchester City and Everton full-back has been handed a fine after posting abusive comments about Coronation Street's Antony Cotton on the social networking site

Former England left-back Michael Ball has been fined £6,000 by the FA for posting homophobic comments on Twitter.
The 32-year-old, who had his contract terminated by Leicester City on Monday, admitted acting in an improper way after he was charged for a homophobic tweet about Coronation Street’s Anthony Cotton, with the FA giving out its biggest fine yet for such behaviour.
The ex-Manchester City player has since been warned about his future conduct, and his remarks regarding the actor have been deleted from his personal Twitter page.
Leicester’s decision to cancel the remainder of Ball’s contract by mutual consent had no connection to the comments he posted.
The FA has reinforced their message about the use of online media to players, having previously warned clubs about their conduct on social networking sites.
