'Scoring in the final is a special feeling' - Prayag United's Ranti Martins
The former Dempo poacher was the difference between the two sides as Prayag United were crowned the IFA Shield champions after their 1-0 win over East Bengal....
Ranti Martins has always been one of the I-League’s best players due to his exemplary goal scoring abilities. The Nigerian spent eight successful seasons with Goan club Dempo SC before making a move to big-spenders Prayag United with whom he landed his first trophy on Wednesday when he scored the only goal in the final of the IFA Shield.
The 26-year old was no doubt in dreamland after helping his side defeat a confident East Bengal side.
“Playing for United SC is a different challenge. But I’m happy to have done my job done and helped the team win a trophy. We played as a team and that’s the key to our success,” said Ranti to The Times of India.
“A striker’s job is to score but scoring a goal in the final is always a special feeling,” the Nigerian predator added.
Coach Eelco Schattorie was a happy man after he had brought the Kolkata club their first trophy of the season after the club had invested heavily in bringing some world-class names to the squad.
“As a team,East Bengal are better than us. Football is a process and we are evolving as a team. This win will help us achieve our goal,” Schattorie maintained.
