Nehru Cup: Group Format Would Have Been Better - Climax Lawrence
Indian international Climax Lawrence believes that having a group format serves well than having to play all the participating teams before the finals in any tournament...
Apart from the football, Nehru Cup has been in the
news of all the commotion with regards to the participating nations. Due to this
drama, the schedule and fixtures of the tournament have been changed.
From a six nation affair, it’s now become a five team tournament with all having to play each other with the top two making it into the final, as opposed to dividing the teams into groups of two and play the semi-finals and the final.
“The group format is always better as you win and then play the semi-finals. Now this year’s Nehru Cup is pretty much like that of the last edition where we had to play all the countries with the best two playing the finals. It is a little tougher than the group format for sure,” said Climax to Goal.com.
The Dempo SC skipper admitted that the hot and humid conditions in Gurgaon have been tough for the side but they are finding their feet.
“Barcelona was also hot but as much humid. Here it’s just too hot and humid though now we have more or less adapted to it,” pointed the central midfielder.
On a nostalgic note, Climax picked the Zlatan Ibrahimovic presentation at the Camp Nou as the highlight of the tour to Barcelona.
“We were practicing outside the stadium and then we went for the presentation. It was good to see almost 75, 000 people come to the ground and greet a player. It’s was truly an experience of a lifetime.”
