Food For Thought: Have Inter Milan Committed Suicide By Selling Zlatan Ibrahimovic?

Goal.com's Subhankar Mondal explores the top football stories making the headlines on Friday in his 'Food For Thought' column.....

Have Inter Sold Their 2009-2010 Hopes By Selling Zlatan Ibrahimovic?

If Italian transfer guru Luciano Moggi is to be believed, then yes. The former Juventus general manager claimed on Friday that Inter Milan "have committed suicide by selling Ibrahimovic" to FC Barcelona, explaining that the Swede is a matchwinner who can perform even during the worst of times.

Indeed, you cannot really argue against Moggi’s opinion. As much true is the fact that Ibracadabra has not always performed in big matches for Inter Milan and couldn't inspire them to Champions League success, it cannot be denied that over the last three years when the Nerazzurri have won the scudetto on the pitch, ‘Ibra’ has been their best player. A support striker who scores goals and lots of goals and creates several of them too, Ibrahimovic has functioned even when there has been no playmaker to serve him.

Of course with the close to €50 million (as well as Samuel Eto'o) that the deal has brought Inter Milan, Jose Mourinho can afford to sign at least one world class creative midfielder to help Eto'o get the goals; but who would he sign?

Most of the proven world class playmakers have either been snapped up or are unavailable and although the likes of Deco can still be pursued, what Inter now need is someone who is on the top of his game and has proven Champions League credentials - Deco doesn't lack the latter aspect but is found wanting in the former.

But then again, in Eto'o Inter have the second best striker in the world and a proven goalscorer. Also, Aliaksandr Hleb comes to the San Siro as part of the Maxwell-to-Barcelona deal and the Belarusian can play some decent football too.

Is Emmanuel Adebayor The Second Coming Of Robinho?

Remember those days when Robinho used to 'invite' all his fellow Brazilian friends to the Eastlands after just arriving from Real Madrid? Well, if you look closely, then new Manchester City recruit Emmanuel Adebayor is doing pretty much the same thing. Apparently.

The Togolese international striker has voiced his support for Man City's pursuit of John Terry and insists that for the Blues to grow bigger they have to secure big names. Adebayor believes that City's "defence would be great" if the England international central defender arrives at the City of Manchester Stadium.

The former Arsenal striker also said that it would be great if City can sign "a very good friend of mine" Kolo Toure. The Ivorian has been off his game for a while now but is still regarded by many as one of the best central defenders in entire Europe. Indeed, his signing would make Man City a stronger side defensively but some believe that Man City are too small a club for Toure.

Wasn't Robinho doing pretty much the same thing not so long ago, saying how some of the best players in Europe should come and play for Manchester City?
