'Led City to the Premier League title' - Goal's World Player of the Week Vincent Kompany

World Player of the Week
Vincent Kompany
AGE  28
PLAYS FOR Manchester City
Manchester City 2-0 West Ham
Manchester City 4-0 Aston Villa

Yaya Toure has stolen the limelight for much of this season at the Etihad but it was fitting that Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany had the final say in the Premier League title race on Sunday.

The Belgium international captained the side to the title two years ago and proved it wasn't just a one off by replicating that feat to pick up his second league winners' medal.

Goal's Alec Fenn said: "The 28-year-old has stood up to be counted in recent weeks as City held off relentless pressure from Liverpool to claim the Premier League title.

"Kompany marshalled his back four to two clean sheets in seven days, firstly in the 4-0 win over Aston Villa, before doing the same again as City brushed West Ham aside 2-0 on the final day of the season.

"And the centre-back capped off the season in perfect fashion by scoring his side's second to clinch the title and join an elite group of players to have lifted the trophy more than once."

Congratulations to Vincent Kompany, Goal's 261st World Player of the Week winner!
