Sporting Goa managed to finally kick-start their season by beating their more fancied hosts in a closely fought encounter in Shillong...Welcome to Goal's new I-League feature: Top and Flop. For every game, a candidate will be put forward, as chosen by Goal, who deserves recognition for achieving something special. It won't necessarily be the best player in the league - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. In the same vein, we will also name a player whose performance wasn’t up to the mark on the given day and eventually came to hurt his side.
|TOP: BOITHANG HAOKIP
Despite ending up on the losing side, the Manipur lad showed immense temperament and an understanding of the game. He effortlessly switched flanks and was a nemesis for the Sporting defense. Haokip also headed in a goal but was adjudged offside. This Lajong star could be a solution to the National team's winger woes. Hope Wim Koevermans is listening.
| FLOP: CORNELL GLEN
Having started his I-League campaign with two goals against Dempo, the world cupper was expected to salvage Lajong's pride at home. But he remained ineffective throughout, failing to combine well with his teammates. The Trinidad and Tobago International was hence substituted in the 66th minute of the game.
