thumbnail Hello,

Los Blancos return from their summer siesta to play a total of 8 friendlies. Goal previews all their warm up games as they look to continue their assault on all fronts.

A new season brings new hope and in this case, a new manager as well in Carlo Ancelotti who replaces Jose Mourinho at the Bernabeu. With the Italian's coaching staff consisting of the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Paul Clement, Real Madrid expect to go the distance in terms of challenging not just Barcelona domestically but a whole raft of adversaries from all over Europe in every competition. They have also boosted their ranks by signing Spain's U-21 stars, Illaramendi and Isco this summer.

Back to work from 15th July

The Madrid stars strutted into their training ground Ciudad Real Madrid, just outside the capital to begin their first training session of the new season on Monday, the 15th of July.

(Grenier, Lopez) - (Morata (OG), Casemiro)

Real then, make a pit-stop in France where they play Lyon. After a somewhat taciturn season last year, where they finished only third in the league but still went on to win the Super Cup, Lyon will hope to give a good account of themselves in this game.

Maxime Gonalons has succeeded in making himself a household name in France with a string of stellar performances last season which included an 88% pass success rate and 46% shot accuracy. All eyes will also be on budding talent Clement Grenier, who scored 7 goals in 28 games from midfield and has been linked to Arsenal.

A tight game was eventually an tight game where in Lyon took the lead through Clement Grenier and doubled their lead through Lisandro Lopez only for Los Blancos to force a comeback by first insinuating Morata into an OG in the 79th minute and then later through Casemiro in the 85th minute. A close shave indeed.

              20:00 LMT
              18:00 GMT

Real Madrid will look to tame the new champions of Ligue 1 in their own backyard. Paris Saint-Germain have their own set of Galacticos now so this should be a good encounter. Ancelotti will look to put one over his former club, who under the leadership of Laurent Blanc have signed Edinson Cavani and now look even more formidable than before.

About the opposition

Bruce Arena is in charge of the MLS side and under him Landon Donovan has continued his fantastic career having crossed 50 goals scored for his national team in 147 games. Robbie Keane has also impressed during his stint in America. He was their top scorer and had the most shots on goallast season for his side.

They have  strengthened in other positions after Beckham's departure with Italian goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini coming in from Tottenham Hotspur, former Houston Dynamo Colin Clark picked up in the MLS Re-Entry Draft, while Greg Cochrane and Charlie Rugg were selected in the MLS SuperDraft. In midfield, Juninho has again been a stand-out performer, while Jose Villarreal and Jack McBean have showed flashes of brilliance up front despite their lack of experience.

Their abysmal 9th place finish, one of their lowest ever, in the Serie A will prompt the players to at least show signs of improvement so they can do better in the forthcoming season.

Real will finish their entire pre-season schedule at home to Al-Sadd, the Qatari multi-sports club opposition who they will have to topple to win the Santiago Bernabeu Trophy.

About the opposition

The Qatari outfit based in Doha and under manager Hussein Amotta have nothing to lose and will try to prove a point. They have finished third in the FIFA club World Cup being the only West Asian Team ever to do so after winning the Asian Champions League.

 Juventus
Real Madrid's Man to Watch - Isco

The Spainish international was linked with several European clubs most notably Manchester City before Madrid secured his signature. A twinkle-toed midfielder, Isco shone for Malaga and Spain last season and in the UEFA U-21 Euro Championships. He is touted as one of the best young players in his position.

Isco isn't just another typical Spanish playmaker. He's intelligent, technically sound and always has an eye for goal. He unlocks defenses with his precise passes and creativity. He is great with his first touch and adept at playing one-two’s with. The preseason will be a great opportunity for fans to get a glimpse of the highly-rated youngster.

What the Bench-warmers need to do...

Every player yearns to play regularly. Coaches will give everyone a run-out on tour and with Carlo Ancelotti getting to know his squad, fringe players should get plenty of opportunities.

New players like Isco and Illaramendi will try to stake claims for regular starting XI roles while the likes of Angel Di Maria, Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira will face a battle to hold onto their positions. Luka Modric and Kaka will also look to make an impression while Alvaro Morata will also stake a claim after his impressive showing at the U-21 Euros.
