Bundesliga Team of the Week: Robben & Gomez feature for the first time
Goal.com picks out the top talent from around the German top flight as Bayern Munich marched on in the title race, opening up a 17-point lead at the top
There is no doubting that Bayern Munich have had an incredible season, but few weeks will have left the Bavarians more satisfied than the last seven days. Not only did they take a step towards claiming a place in the last eight of the Champions League by beating Arsenal 3-1, but they claimed a 6-1 win over Werder Bremen and saw Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund slip to draws. Unsurprisingly, they are heavily represented in Goal.com's Team of the Week.
In goal, we have Ron-Robert Zieler, who made a string of key saves as Hannover claimed local bragging rights by grabbing a 5-1 Nordderby win over Hamburg on Saturday.
In front of him, we have Anderson Bamba, who helped Eintracht Frankfurt to a 0-0 draw against fellow top-four hopefuls Freiburg on Friday. Joel Matip was the unlikely hero for Schalke, scoring twice against Fortuna Dusseldorf in a Ruhr derby, and Matthias Ostrzolek led Augsburg to a rare win with an exemplary performance at the back.
Three members of the midfield four represent Bayern. Arjen Robben scored his second Bundesliga goal in as many weeks in the demolition of Bremen, Javi Martinez notched his second goal for the club, and Franck Ribery put in the sort of performance that has typified his season, helping him to his 11th appearance in our XI. Finally, we have Sergio Pinto, the midfield dynamo for Hannover.
Mario Gomez is the fourth and final Bayern player to make the cut after scoring twice against Bremen. He is joined up front by Jefferson Farfan, another key member of the Schalke team who claimed a key victory over Dusseldorf, while Armin Younes grabbed Gladbach a rare point against Dortmund.
