30th July, 1966
30th July, 1966 is a day which English football fans will never forget. Since the inception of the Football World Cup, England had been accused of underperforming at the tournament. However, this time around it was different. In front of 93,000 spectators at the Wembley stadium England finished victorious against Germany by means of a 4-2 scoreline to lift the World Cup. George Hursts’ hat-trick did the job for England as they won their first and till date their only World Cup.

A fantastic player, a fantastic manager and more importantly a fantastic person. Sir Bobby Robson is remembered among the football fraternity even today. Having managed teams like FC Porto, Newcastle United and Barcelona, Robson was regarded as one of the greatest managers in football history. However he was plagued with lung cancer and passed away on 31st July, 2009.
1st August, 1920
A historic day for Indian football was marked by the formation of the famous East Bengal football club on 1st August, 1920. Since its inception East Bengal remain the only team in history to have won three consecutive IFA Shields.
2nd August, 2007
Alexandre Pato is a professional Brazilian footballer who plies his trade at AC Milan. Having started his career with Internacional, he immediately made headlines as he scored 12 goals in 27 appearances. On 2nd August, 2007 AC Milan signed Pato for a fee of €24 million. Since then, he has won one Serie A title and one Supercoppa Italiana with the Milanese side.
3rd August, 1984
A football legend in his own right, Sunil Chhetri is arguablyly the best Indian striker at the moment. He recently signed for Sporting Lisbon's ‘B’ side in Portugal. Sunil was born on 3rd August, 1984. He was the first Indian footballer to play in Major League Soccer and is now the first to play for a Portuguese club.
4th August, 1995
4th August, 1995 was the day Michael Ballack began his professional footballing career. At the age of 18, Ballack made his debut for the Bundesliga 2 side Chemnitzer on this day and went on to become one of the greatest midfielders in Germany’s history. He was named German Footballer of the Year thrice and added four Bundesliga titles and one Premier League title to his list of achievements.
5th August, 1989
Born on 5th August, 1989, Ryan Bertrand is a professional footballer who plays for Chelsea. He has been impressive for the London giants and also started in the UEFA Champions League finals against Bayern Munich in 2012 which Chelsea won. He has appeared only eight times for Chelsea so far, spending most of his time away on loan.
