23rd July, 2010-
It was a sad day for French football as all the 23 members of the national squad were suspended on 23rd July, 2010 at the request of the new manager Laurent Blanc. This was due to the player revolt led by Nicholas Anelka during the 2010 World Cup campaign. Having lost the first two matches against Uruguay and Mexico, the French team questioned the tactics of Raymond Domenech, of substituting Anelka at half time. They refused to practice and lost the next match against South Africa. This led to Domenech’s sacking and the newly appointed Blanc called for suspension.
24th July, 1983-
Daniele De Rossi is an Italian footballer who plays for AS Roma. Born on the 24th July, 1983, De Rossi has become an integral part of the Roma team ever since he made his debut back in 2000. So far he has made 281 appearances for the club and has scored 33 goals. His international career can also be called a successful one as he was part of the World Cup 2006 winning squad as well as being included in the Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 roster.
25th July, 1902-
On 25th July, 1902 a group of 10 Paraguayans and 1 Dutchman created a club named Club Olimpia in Asuncion. It is Paraguay’s oldest and the most successful clubs and since its inception has won 39 national titles and 3 Copa Libertadores.
26th July, 2003-
It was on this day that East Bengal became the first Indian club to have won any Asian level football tournament when they demolished Thailand's BEC Terro Sasana 3-1 in the final of the ASEAN Cup in Jakarta back in 2003. Mike Okoro, Bhaichung Bhutia and Alvito D'Cunha were on the scoresheet for the Red and Gold brigade who were coached by Subhash Bhowmick.
Marek Hamsik, a Slovakian international, plays for the Italian club Napoli. Born on the 27th July, 1987 this 25 year old attacking midfielder has forged a strong partnership with the club striker Edinson Cavani. He joined Napoli in 2007 making 180 appearances and scoring 50 goals. In his career with Napoli he has just won a single Coppa Italia trophy. An integral member of the national side, he considers Pavel Nedved as his footballing idol.
28th July, 1981-
Michael Carrick is an English footballer who plies his trade for Manchester United. Born on the 28th July, 1981, the 31 year old joined the Red Devils in 2006 after leaving Tottenham Hotspurs. He has won 4 League titles, 4 FA Community Shields, 1 League Cup, 1 Champions League and 1 Club World Cup in the Manchester United shirt.
29th July, 1911-
29th July 1911 was a historic moment for Mohun Bagan. The 11 barefooted soldiers of this famous Indian club defeated the British club East Yorkshire Regiment to lift the IFA Shield. This day is celebrated as the Mohun Bagan Day throughout the city of Kolkata with Ruud Gullit to grace the occasion this time around.
