The Goan club began their preparations for the new season in a novel way...
Salgaocar SC players, along with the employees of V.M. Salgaocar & Bros. visited the Matruchaya orphanage for the less privileged children at Ponda, Goa, on Saturday.
Board member of the orphanage, Mr. Rajendra Modak introduced daughter of club owner Mr. Shivanand V. Salgaocar, Miss. Swati Salgaocar to give a speech that focused on the cause of helping institutions like Matruchhaya. The family kin also expressed hope that someday she could take all the children out for Salgaocar's matches at the Fatorda stadium.
Salgaocar football team members engaged with the children by playing some fun games with them and later distributing sweets, and what better way than a noble cause like this to start the season!
The significance to the orphanage relates to the late Vasudevrao Salgaocar who was the first president of the board of trustees of Matruchaya which operates from its own premises donated by Shantadurga Devasthan at Dhavali in Ponda, Goa, and is recognised by the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), New Delhi and the State Government.
Miss Swati Salgaocar also showed appreciation for the employees of V.M. Salgaocar & Bros. who had collected a donation amount for the trust through their volunteered effort and finally handed over the cheque to Mr. Rajendra Modak of Matruchhaya.
