Racing Santander endured Atletico Madrid’s onslaught at home on Saturday but still managed a goalless draw, and the man of the moment for the hosts was their goalkeeper. Adrian Lopez, Filipe Luis, Diego, Alvaro Dominguez and Pizzi all were thwarted by Tono. |

Real Betis recorded an encouraging 2-1 victory over high-flying Athletic Bilbao in Seville, thanks largely to the performance of right-back Nelson. He looked good down the flank and scored the winner against the 10-man Basque side in injury time in what was his first Primera Division match of the season. Filipe Luis put in a good shift at left-back for Atleti at Racing, while Carlos Marchena was a rock in central defence for Villarreal as the Yellow Submarine got the better of their visitors Granada 3-1. Osasuna’s 3-2 victory over Barcelona in Pamplona was the surprise result of the weekend and Sergio’s performance at centre-back played a large role in that. His blocks in and around the penalty area and aerial prowess kept the Blaugrana out. |

Borja Valero was another outstanding performer in Villarreal’s win against Granada. The Spain international midfielder scored one goal and looked creative for most parts at El Madrigal. Raul Garcia was arguably the best player for Osasuna against Barca, as the midfielder on loan from Atletico Madrid provided an assist and scored a goal against the champions in masterful fashion. Sofiane Feghouli was instrumental in leading Valencia to a 4-0 triumph over Sporting Gijon, scoring one goal and setting up another, as well as finding space and constantly passing the ball around for his team-mates to attack. |

Dejan Lekic scored two of Osasuna’s three goals against Barca and kept Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol on their toes throughout. Jonas, too, grabbed a brace for Valencia at Mestalla despite arriving as a substitute with just 20 minutes left on the clock, both of his goals coming in injury time. Cristiano Ronaldo went one better, notching up a hat-trick in Real Madrid’s 4-2 win against 10-man Levante at home. It was the Portugal international attacker’s 13th hat-trick in a Madrid shirt and his third goal on Sunday also marked the club's 4,000th league goal at the Santiago Bernabeu. |
