January transfer window mid-term report: Who is coming & who is going in the Bundesliga
Wolfsburg account for the majority of moves; otherwise, teams are planning ahead for the summer. Goal.com takes an in-depth look at the dealings in the German market thus far
By Fabio Porta
With the transfer window still open until January 31, teams like Wolfsburg have already been very active, while others have yet to announce any additions. Below, Goal.com puts each Bundesliga team under the microscope, giving an overview of who could stay and who might leave in the coming days - there may yet be one or two more transfer coups!
| BAYERN MUNICH |

Ivica Olic could leave the record champions later this month, as well as Danijel Pranjic. Lazio and Wolfsburg are interested in the former, while the latter is said to be on Hamburg's radar.
There are several positions in which Bayern are hoping to improve, particularly in attack and defence, as Uli Hoeness revealed earlier this month. The hottest candidate is Schalke captain Benedikt Howedes, who has in the past been linked with a move to Munich and whom recently Goal.com exclusively revealed remains a top candidate. The centre-back will likely replace Daniel van Buyten, who has attracted the interest of four clubs, including Monaco.
Bayern's priorities for filling the striker role are less clear, and it is currently uncertain as to whether they have fully resolved to make a move for an attacking midfielder. These are primarily summer topics, however: surprises in January are not to be expected.
Ins: none
Outs: none
Targets: Benedikt Howedes, Xherdan Shaqiri
Possible departures: Ivica Olic, Danijel Pranjic
| BORUSSIA DORTMUND |

That could change soon, with Lucas Barrios continually dissatisfied with his situation as a substitute after losing his starting role to Robert Lewandowski. The Paraguayan striker has been a reported target for Malaga, Sevilla, and Aston Villa, and a recent report stated that a bid of €12 million will be enough to convince BVB to let Barrios go. If he is not released, Mohamed Zidan could also be on his way out the door, with Hannover said to be mulling a bid for the Egyptian forward's services.
Manuel Schmiedebach could move the other way from the 96ers, but only in the summer, when his contract expires. Another interesting candidate is 17-year-old Aalborg talent Lucas Andersen. But at the moment, it does not appear that Dortmund will make many big moves before July.
Ins: none
Outs: none
Targets: Lucas Andersen, Manuel Schmiedebach
Possible departures: Lucas Barrios, Florian Kringe, Mohamed Zidan
| SCHALKE |

Looking ahead to the summer, Carlos Zambrano will return from his loan spell at St Pauli, and there could be more than a splash or two made as both Lukas Podolski and Rene Adler have been linked with transfers to the Veltins-Arena.
Ins: Chinedu Obasi (Hoffenheim, loan)
Outs: Jan Moravek (Augsburg, loan)
Targets: Adler, Podolski
Possible departures: Jefferson Farfan, Benedikt Howedes, Jose Manuel Jurado
| BAYER 04 LEVERKUSEN |

The former Germany No. 1 has been linked to both Hamburg and Schalke, and is free to go should an offer be tabled. Reports have suggested that Tranquillo Barnetta might leave for Fiorentina, but the fit-again Swiss winger is not expected to depart as his side still in contention for the Champions League and alternates Renato Augusto and Michael Ortega are still highly injury-prone.
Dimitar Berbatov has been linked with a move to the BayArena, but the Bulgarian would be well out of Leverkusen's pay bracket. With Barnetta healthy again and Renato Augusto hopeful of a prolonged spell of fitness, no further additions are expected.
Ins: Bernd Leno (Stuttgart, €7.5m)
Outs: Hanno Balitsch (Nurnberg, free transfer), Nicolai Jorgensen (Kaiserslautern, loan)
Targets: Jens Hegeler, Manuel Schmiedebach
Possible departures: Rene Adler, Tranquillo Barnetta

BORUSSIA MÖNCHENGLADBACH
|

After their fantastic run in the first half of the season, Gladbach are eager to keep up their momentum, and have signed young holding midfielders Alexander Ring and Tolga Cigerci. The two will be direct competition for one another, but could remain at the Borussia Park in the long term, with Roman Neustadter having announced his summer departure and Thorben Marx and Havard Nordtveit also rumoured to be close to exit. With Marco Reus set to leave as well in July, Gladbach have also been linked with attacking players, including Jan Wuytens from Utrecht, and Wolfsburg's Patrick Helmes.
Ins: Tolga Cigerci (Wolfsburg, loan), Alexander Ring (Helsinki, loan with buy option)
Outs: Logan Bailly (Genk, loan), Elias Kachunga (Osnabruck, loan), Joshua King (loan terminated)
Targets: Patrick Helmes, Dusan Tadic, Jan Wuytens
Possible departures: Thorben Marx, Havard Nordtveit

WERDER BREMEN
|

Bremen have been quiet in the transfer market, and although their financial situation is anything but rosy, having struggled in their pre-season friendlies, they might be forced to make a move or two before the window closes. A new playmaker is in Werder's plans, with Atletico Madrid's Diego considered a dream, but Austria Wien's Zlatko Junuzovic a more realistic option. To raise funds for an arrival, Sebastian Prodl, Wesley and Marko Marin are candidates to follow loanee Sandro Wagner out the door.
Ins: none
Outs: Sandro Wagner (Kaiserslautern, loan)
Targets: Diego, Zlatko Junuzovic
Possible departures: Marko Marin, Sebastian Prodl, Wesley

HANNOVER 96
|

Hannover grew fatigued towards the end of the first round, and while no moves have been made as of yet, surely one or another transfer can be expected before the end of January: coach Mirko Slomka has admitted his side have a particular need for additional options up front. The 17-year-old talent Mateo Kovacic is a potential addition, as is Mushaga Bakeng. Additionally, the 96ers have made an offer to bring Mame Biram Diouf in from Manchester United's reserves.
There could also be a departure or two, as Manuel Schmiedebach is out of contract in the summer and will leave. Moritz Stoppelkamp is said to be growing unsettled with his role as a reserve, and might also seek a new challenge. However, neither is likely to leave before July.
Ins: none
Outs: none
Targets: Mushaga Bakenga, Mame Biram Diouf, Mateo Kovacic
Possible departures: Manuel Schmiedebach, Moritz Stoppelkamp

Arthur Boka, Stefano Celozzi and Pavel Pogrebnyak could leave as well, with Timothy Chandler and either Patrick Helmes or Srdjan Lakic their potential replacements in the full-back and striker positions, respectively.

Thus far, Mikael Ishak is the only addition to the Koln side, but Stale Solbakken's team will have a different look about it as they resume their Bundesliga campaign. Sebastian Freis, Thiemo-Jerome Kialka, Adam Matuschyk, Tomaoki Makino, and Alexandru Ionita have left, while Kevin Pezzoni could also depart. Lukas Podolski is highly desired by a number of clubs, and while his long-term future is not decided, he will not leave before the summer. Koln are considering striking replacements at the moment, but the most available options, Srdjan Lakic (high price tag) and Patrick Helmes (personal issues) are unlikely additions.
Ins: Mikael Ishak (Assyriska FF, undisclosed fee)
Outs: Sebastian Freis (Freiburg, free transfer), Thiemo-Jerome Kialka (Jahn Regensburg, free transfer), Tomaoki Makino (Urawa Red Diamonds, loan), Alexandru Ionita (Rapid Bucharest, loan)
