10 Must-Visit Places In Delhi For Bayern Munich!
With Bayern Munich set to step on the Indian capital, here is the city guide every member of their squad would need...
By Sarthak Dubey
Hollywood movies (most recently Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible 4) tend to picturise India as the land of snake charmers, showcasing many dome-like objects with an irritating traditional trumpet beat in the background and an embarrassing Anil Kapoor.
Only a resident Indian would know that our country is much more modernised than what Hollywood assumes. And with FC Hollywood visiting Delhi on January 10th, here are a few 'desi' and 'pardesi' must-visit locations in the capital...
1. For The 'Foodie Bavarians'

Tease Those Tastebuds | Parathas (Left), Samosas (Right)
We are known for our spicy and oily food and that is what we want the likes of Franck Ribery, Mario Gomez and Arjen Robben to try. If any of the players are Bollywood fans, the Chandni Chowk in 'Delhi Belly' would be more realistic than the Chandni Chowk in 'Chandni Chowk To China'. All types of food items with the 'special desi tadka' can be found here. One must try item would be the 'Chur Chur Naan' at Paharganj made with crushed potatoes drenched in a pot full of ghee! Another 'akka-world-famous-in-Delhi-spot' would be Karim's opposite Jama Masjid for amazing Mughal food. From gobi to paneer, all types of 'parathas' fit to fail the fitness test of any FC Hollywood player can be found in Parathewali Gali.

Those Bayern Munich stars planning to lavishly spend on their travelling wives and girlfriends can head to the 'hi-fi-Dilli-ilakas' like Vasant Kunj's DLF Promenade, DLF Emporio and Ambience malls and set free the WAG desire to shop till they drop. The most trendy and latest fashion can also be caught at Janpath, where you get exotic accessories at the cheapest of prices. Every city in India has one, but the Chor Bazaar, Dilli Haat and Khan Market must be avoided! Instead, Karol Bagh is a decent option.
3. Romance Is In The Air...
If the players are looking for a quiet and romantic location to take their wives, Delhi has plenty of spots. If they are looking for privacy- we're sorry! One of Delhi's most scenic location is District Park in Hauz Khas. A relaxing atmosphere, quite ironically, with Feroz Shah's tomb and a beautiful lake can pump up the romance. After all, Emraan Hashmi's 'Jannat 2' is currently being shot there! Bayern Munich can also pay a visit to the famous Lodhi Garden, but they might just end up like one of the statues.
4. Foreign Direct Investment!
They might earn millions in their profession already, but the players can take advantage of the Indian Government's latest policy to allow foreigners to directly invest in the Indian market! Delhi's investment opportunities are on the rise with Gurgaon and Noida slowly becoming a very 'Special Economic Zone' (SEZ).
5. The Transporter

As Quick As It Gets | The Delhi Metro Can Get You There
Lets just be very honest. Not just the people of Delhi, but the entire nation is praising the Delhi Metro. It is fast, convenient and provides an unforgettable experience that makes you feel proud to be an Indian. We can certainly say it matches European standards, and FC Hollywood can catch a glimpse of their own backyard combined with our 'desi ishtyle' at any Metro Station. (Maybe not Rajiv Chowk station. It happens to be extremely crowded). The auto rickshaw 'walas' apparently do not cheat and over-charge (Hopefully Chennai people are reading). A Delhi auto ride is also one of its kind.
6. Eve Teasing
If the 'Bavarian Bachelors' are looking for eve-teasing opportunities, they can wear their tight jeans, 'cooling-glasses' (shades) and ride their bikes outside Delhi University's North and South Campus. Remember, they will be shooed away by the special booths setup outside each girl's college for this specific purpose! If the fashion at Janpath was the theory part, the practical approach can be found at any of the DU colleges!
7. When Bollywood Meets FC Hollywood
A good, solid and entertaining Bollywood movie is a must for every Bayern Munich star. But where will they watch it? The well maintained PVR Cinemas, Wave Cinemas, Satyam, M2K Cinemas and Fun Cinemas are all the usual lot. Since we are getting 'desi' here, we recommend REGAL Cinemas! The oldest, cheapest and most vintage movie theatre in Delhi! Also with the healthiest cockroaches...(Pun intended)
8. The Usual Heritage Sites

The Gates Are Open | The Standing Structure Of The India Gate
Now that we're done roaming around the small streets of Delhi, the most popular tourist locations must not be ignored. Ice-cream at the India Gate lawns with a bright winter sunshine is a pleasure. Qutub Minar and the humuongous yet beautiful Akshardham Temple are never-to-forget spots for foreigners.
9. The British Connection
Since the Germans were never politically ruled and overpowered by the British, they are prohibited from taking part in the Commonwealth Games! Hence, they must take a look at the CWG Village which definitely possesses certain embarrasing history, controversial events but now a proud public souvenir. The Nehru Stadium where they are incidentally playing the Bhaichung Bhutia testimonial is another momento from the historic sports event hosted in 2010!
10. The Wonderful People of Delhi!
Finally, the Bavarians will witness the powerful football fans of Delhi that cheered their National Team to victory in the latest edition of SAFF Championship (there weren't many!) and AFC Challenge Cup (there were many!) in 2008. They will back their evergreen captain Bhutia for the win and give Bayern Munich a run for the money!
